I’m Alex Turner. Living in Medway, Kent. Dad to four boys and happily married. I enjoy finding things out, then I abandon them and turn to the next new thing! My boredom threshold could be the death of me. Some things have lasted the course – cycling, the internet, music and taking pictures are all in that category.
I am currently the manager of a children’s home where I’ve been since the tail end of 2009. Working mostly with young males aged between 13 – 17. My background is in mental health nursing and social care. I’ve spent time in the NHS on the wards, as a community nurse and as a street outreach worker. Had a few good years working for a mental health charity providing residential care around North London. Took a step back for a while and got into inspection and regulation. After seven years of life sapping bureaucracy I decided to return to practice to do what I’m doing now.
Lists seem to go down pretty well. Here’s 10 bits of information (+1 bonus) all about Alex Turner…
- Enjoying a very long and happy relationship with cycling. I love it. Current bike is a Specialized Tricross Sport.
- Big love of reggae though there’s not much music I don’t enjoy especially if it’s live. My favourite period for reggae is between the seventies to the mid eighties, either England or Jamaica.
- Have spent time travelling independently around India and East / Southern Africa.
- Did a bungee jump from a bridge over the Zambezi river between Zambia and Zimbabwe
- Been hardwired to support the underdog
- Loyal. Sometimes to the point of stupidity. Bit more sensible now about the friends and acquaintances I make.
- Honest with my opinions. A bit too honest.
- Brave not fearless.
- Got no time for violence but have fired a machine gun, been awarded for marksmanship and learnt a bit of Karate
- Adaptable and quick to gain competence
- monaxle has been my internet pseudonym for a good few years. Comes from the times when it was rare people used their real names online. Nothing too complicated about where the name came from. When I got married we sent out invites with an email address to RSVP to. Neither of us had an email address so we made one up by combining both our names mon from Monica and axle from Alex. It’s kind of stuck around a lot longer than anticipated.
The favicon and repeating wallpaper image is what I use everywhere online as an avatar / icon. It comes from a picture I took of the ceiling of the Debre Birhan Selassie Church in Gondar, Ethiopia. On the ceiling there are over eighty similar faces. They represent angels. They are all slightly different each having it’s own character and expression. I liked the benevolence of them and thought the brilliant wide open eyes went well with my love of photography and images.
