Continuing with the mission to ride the entire 6,200 km of the North Sea Cycle Route. Late February I took the opportunity to complete another 234 miles. Started from Market Rasen. This is where my friend Azeem and I finished the section we rode back in November from Kings Lynn. Scheduled in three days to do the miles stopping of in B&B / hotels along the way. Hull the first night. Close to Whitby the second. Finishing off in Newcastle on the third.
I have got myself a tough little camera. Taking pictures as I ride has become a perfectly feasible possibility. I shall let the pictures and captions tell the story –
It’s a real shame Azeem was unable to ride the miles we had planned. Despite his valiant efforts it came down to simply not having the fitness / endurance to complete what he set out to do.
Mixed feelings about my accomplishment. We had planned to do the route together. We agreed I should ride on without him and meet up at the end of each stage on day two and three. That was OK but I missed the company and shared experience. It now means him having to revisit the sections he bailed on if the integrity of the ride is to remain. Thirty odd miles from Grindale to Whitby and about 50 miles from Middlesbrough to Newcastle.
Next stretch we have planned is from Newcastle to Edinburgh. I have now cycled those miles. I had some work in Newcastle mid March. It seemed silly not to mix in a bike ride. Originally planned dates which Azeem could make. Had to reschedule due to the changing needs of my client. I ended up going alone. I did though avoid the NSCR / NCR1 for most of the distance covered. When the time comes I will ride the section with Azeem and continue with our mission.
